The Price of "Dirty Power"
In modern industrial plants, the application of high-power VFDs, rectifiers, UPS, induction furnaces, and speed-controlled motors helps optimize productivity and save energy. However, these are non-linear loads that generate power quality issues such as harmonics, low power factor, voltage fluctuations, phase unbalance, and control interference.
The consequences are not just “poor power quality” but concrete operational risks: abnormal heating of Transformers/Cables, repeated capacitor failures, unexplained CB tripping, VFD/PLC errors, unplanned downtime, and increased energy losses. Identifying the root cause is difficult when incidents only occur during specific production cycles.

When Should You Perform a PQ Audit?
You should implement an assessment if you notice one or more of the following signs:
Capacitor Failure
Capacitors/Reactors overheating, bulging, failing repeatedly; unstable compensation system.
Abnormal Heating
Transformers, panels, busbars, and power cables overheat even when load is not exceeding rating.
VFD/Drive Errors
Random errors, resets, over-current/over-voltage faults, control interference.
Nuisance Tripping
CB/Relay acting abnormally; incidents occur in "waves" and are hard to reproduce.
Voltage Fluctuation
Voltage oscillation, flicker, or voltage sags when switching large loads.
Expansion Planning
Preparing to add large non-linear loads (drives, furnaces) and need risk assessment before investment.

Survey & Define Goals
- Collect SLD, source configuration (Transformer, Generator, ATS), list of large non-linear loads.
- Identify Point of Common Coupling (PCC), main panels, and interference-causing branches.
- Select measurement timing suitable for production cycles to capture events.
On-site Standard Measurement
Anh Minh uses specialized high-end analyzers (Fluke/Hioki) to record:
- Voltage/Current, P–Q–S, cosφ, demand, load profile.
- Harmonic spectrum (THD, orders) varying with operation modes.
- PQ Events: Sags, swells, unbalance, transients, flicker.
- Time-stamped logs correlated with production operation.

Data Analysis & Root Cause (RCA)
We go beyond “reading numbers”. Our engineers analyze to:
- Identify sources (Drives/UPS/Furnaces or interactions between branches).
- Assess resonance risks with capacitors/reactors and grid structure.
- Identify operational scenarios causing incidents: startups, mode changes, capacitor switching.
