Electricity Consumption Records Continue to Be Shattered

Vietnam Electricity (EVN) reports that electricity consumption figures for the national power system, the Northern power grid, and Hanoi have continuously hit new record highs.

According to EVN, power capacity and output reached an all-time high on June 1, only for those records to be broken again on June 2. To date, the national peak load has exceeded 30,000 MW, with the highest daily consumption reaching nearly 630 million kWh (recorded on June 2).

Data from Customer Service Centers (CSCs) under various Power Corporations show that from 0:00 on June 1 to 23:59 on June 3, EVNHANOI received 1,179 calls, while CSCs in other Northern provinces and cities handled 13,509 calls. Information from these calls was recorded, processed, and forwarded to direct grid management units to restore power to customers as quickly as possible. Among these inquiries, calls reporting power outages have accounted for a higher proportion recently. The majority of these calls came from residential households due to a surge in demand for air conditioning and cooling equipment.

In Hanoi, daily power consumption was 62,944,000 kWh on June 1 and 70,643,000 kWh on June 2. On June 3, consumption hit a record-breaking 71,082,000 kWh—a 63% increase compared to the average of the same period last month (41,770,666 kWh) and an 11% increase over the same period last year (61,717,043 kWh). As June 3 fell on a weekend, the spike in consumption was driven primarily by residential and consumer demand.

In light of this situation, EVN recommends that customers use electricity economically and efficiently by turning off unnecessary electrical appliances and limiting the simultaneous use of high-power equipment during peak hours (Peak hours are from 09:30 to 11:30 and 17:00 to 20:00, Monday through Saturday). Additionally, the public is advised to be vigilant against fire and explosion hazards involving the power grid, substations, and residential areas, and to maintain a safe distance from power lines and equipment to ensure personal and communal safety.

During the course of electricity use, any feedback or inquiries can be directed to the EVNHANOI Customer Service Center at 19001288 or 0422222000, and the EVNNPC Customer Service Center at 19006769 for assistance and consultation.
